Carly Millman – Grad 2004
When and for how long did you play with the Ravens/RGIH?
I started playing for RGIH in its very first year. It was just a Sunday afternoon learn-to-play hockey skate with all ages. The following year, they created actual teams and divisions. I was in Peewee, then went straight to Midget, Juvenile, and the South Coast Female Women’s Hockey League. I played for about 15 years, I think.
Why did you start playing?
I started playing ringette a few years earlier, but was much more interested in hockey. The rules and style of the game were why I made the switch.
What’s your best memory/highlight from being with the Ravens/RGIH?
My best memory would be all the team events. When I was in Midget (which seemed like forever because there were only 3 different age groups!), it was so much fun to play with older girls. I was in grade 8 and they were in grade 12. I still laugh about the funny times we had.
What are you up to now/what have you been up to since graduating from the Ravens/RGIH?
After I finished with RGIH, I went on to do a degree in recreation management, followed by working for Royal Caribbean for a few years. We even played hockey while at sea! I played for the Richmond Devils Senior AA team for 4 years, but have since hung up the skates. I am starting to miss the team aspect and being on the ice. I’ll always have good memories of my hockey years through RGIH.
Why would you recommend girls sign up to play hockey?
100% would recommend it. Hockey was always such a fun bonding experience. The friends I made were the number 1 best part of it for me.
