Richmond Ice Classic Recap

Thank you to ALL Ravens who were part of the largest female house tournament on the continent! We hope you had a fun and rewarding time, made new achievements and new hockey stories. If you made new friends or recognized other teams or players from previous years, even better!

To our parent volunteers, your hours spent helping the tournament are sincerely appreciated. You have made a difference. This tournament has always been the most important and exciting weekend in the Ravens calendar, and it could only be a success with all of us helping together. Your efforts helped give our children and our guests an amazing experience, and helped build the Ravens’ stellar reputation with tournaments.

Since 2023, the Ice Classic has been dedicated to the memory of Danielle Mei Cabana, a young Raven player who was tragically taken from her family and her community in 2022. Her name adorns our Ice Classic medals each year. To read more about the dedication, please click here.

The Richmond Ice Classic is a celebration of female hockey. It’s a special opportunity to see female teams from many different places and age groups. We’re grateful to have such a loyal and diverse following. More than 75 travel teams joined the Ravens at this Ice Classic. You probably noticed that many of them were the same as in previous years. They come back because the Ravens are outstanding hosts. The feedback we received this year was similar to other years, and it is always about how well the Ravens host.

The entire Victoria Reign and Campbell River associations travelled to our Ice Classic this year. In fact, 43 of the 46 female teams on Vancouver Island came to our tournament. At the other extreme, we were told that female hockey exists in the Yukon because of our tournament. Their annual trip to the Ice Classic has caused Yukon’s female program to grow from nothing to 4 teams in just a few years. Word of mouth about the Ice Classic led girls to join hockey.

Several of our guests were from brand-new female programs, or were on their first trip to a female tournament, such as 100 Mile House, Tacoma, and Kerry Park. You made them feel welcome in the female hockey community! Many other teams that you played against were brand-new female programs just a few years ago, like Rose City and Yukon Wild and Lumby Stars, who have grown up attending our tournament. They call the Ravens their friends.

Be proud of the Ice Classic, and be proud of your part in making it special.

Our Ravens teams had huge success in this year’s Ice Classic. Congratulations on winning Gold to the Ravens U18C1 and U11C1 teams! And congratulations on winning Silver to Ravens U11C2, U11C3, U13C1, and U18C2.

To our youngest and oldest Ravens in U7, U9 and U21, we congratulate you on earning your participation medals! We love your energy and passion. (And we love treating the U21 players like kids, too!)

Planning ahead for next season? The next Richmond Ice Classic will take place on the same weekend next year, on March 26-29th, 2026.

On behalf of the Tournament Committee, have a great spring!
